Why we exist

The world runs on infrastructure it cannot afford to stop.

Power plants do not get maintenance windows. Substations do not get scheduled downtime. The grid frequency keeping a hospital online, the turbine spinning to power a city, the control system managing a water treatment facility — these run continuously, because interruption is not an inconvenience. It is a humanitarian event. That creates a security problem the industry has largely chosen to ignore.

The problem nobody built for

The PLCs, RTUs, IEDs, and SCADA systems governing power plants and critical infrastructure were engineered for reliability and physical precision — not cybersecurity. Many have been running for decades. Many will run for decades more.

You cannot patch a power plant’s control system during peak demand. You cannot reboot a substation RTU because a vulnerability was disclosed. You cannot install security agents on legacy infrastructure that was never designed to receive them.

Yet the industry’s answer has been to deploy tools built for IT environments — firewalls, SIEMs, endpoint detection designed for corporate networks — into facilities where they were never meant to operate. They create alert fatigue without context. They flag normal OT behavior as anomalies. They protect a perimeter that has already been breached, repeatedly, with catastrophic consequence.

The security industry borrowed its IT toolkit and applied it to power plants. Nobody built for OT from the ground up. Until now.

The threat didn’t wait

The 2015 and 2016 attacks on Ukraine’s power grid showed adversaries had developed OT-specific capabilities — malware that understood industrial protocols, disabled protection relays, and overwrote firmware to prevent recovery, leaving entire regions dark. Stuxnet proved cyber weapons could cause physical destruction. Triton targeted the safety systems that prevent industrial catastrophe. Colonial Pipeline showed OT compromise can paralyze a nation’s fuel supply within days.

And then AI entered the equation. Attackers now probe grid infrastructure with patience and adaptability no human adversary could sustain — learning control-system behavior, identifying alarm thresholds, persisting below detection, and mutating faster than any signature database can track.

A static ruleset written last year cannot catch an AI-generated attack that did not exist last month. The game changed. The defense did not.

Founder, CEO & current CTO

Victoria Wahura founded VixSiren to close a dangerous gap in how the world protects its power grids — self-healing AI that keeps critical infrastructure stable even when an adversary is already inside. A cybersecurity analyst with SOC experience in the ICT Security Department at Co-operative Bank of Kenya, completing her degree in Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics at Meru University of Science and Technology (graduating later in 2026), she leads the company's vision and engineering from Nairobi.
